WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - Nov. 6, 2023 - PRLog -- For over three decades, the visionary educator behind Black Math Genius, Assata Moore has been on a relentless mission to uplift and empower Black students through mathematics. What started as volunteer work in an African-centered charter school in 1995 has grown into a transformative program that has touched the lives of countless students. Asa Hillard said, "I have never encountered any children in any group who are not geniuses. The first thing you do is treat them like human beings and the second thing you do is love them."

Assata Moore's  journey began with teaching Kiswahili and technology to elementary school students, expanding into advanced math concepts such as algebra, trigonometry, and elementary physics for fourth to sixth graders. The commitment to excellence in math education led to unique initiatives, including "Earithmetic" and "Bring in the Physics, Bring in the Light," a math and physics exploration inspired by the world of tap dance. These initiatives gained recognition and were presented at prestigious conferences, including those hosted by renowned scholars like Dr. Molefi Asante and Dr. Maulana Karenga.

The impact extended beyond the classroom, with students exploring the world through educational trips, studying architecture in Chicago, visiting the Ford Museum, and attending cultural and scientific landmarks across the nation. Their dedication and brilliance led to over 90% of middle school students successfully passing admissions exams for Lansing Community College.

In the late 1990s, well before the era of online learning, the program was part of the pilot for Apex Learning's online software, showcasing the students' ability to take an AP Physics course at an elementary level. The founder's expertise also led to invitations to speak at conferences and conduct teacher training sessions, earning recognition as an expert in making math enjoyable through the presentation, "From Arithmetic to Calculus in an Hour."

Under the leadership of the founder, these institutions achieved remarkable success, from 100% college acceptance rates to nurturing future leaders and professionals. The commitment to diversity and inclusion resulted in the recruitment and training of Black male educators, who have gone on to make significant contributions to education.

Assata Moore has further earned recognition as an Illinois finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and an invitation to a conference hosted by former First Lady Michelle Obama, celebrating high college persistence rates.

In recent years, the program expanded to include engineering and computer science, with numerous students pursuing successful careers in these fields. The dedication and belief in the supreme intelligence of Black children, as championed by Asa Hillard, are at the core of Black Math Genius.

Through this partnership with Brightbeam and EdPost, the founder of Black Math Genius aims to share their transformative approach to math education with a wider audience, ultimately empowering more Black students to excel in mathematics and beyond. Assata Moore has this to say about the collaboration between her and EdPost, "The Math is Mathing when it comes to the collaboration with EdPost and Black Math Genius. I'm geeked, excited, and full of vim about working with an organization that's dedicated to spreading voices like mine from people like me - Educators that are using their platforms to have a positive impact on people and educational institutions and policies."
