J&B Recycling Invests £150,000+ in New Electric Vehicles

Hartlepool-based waste management specialists, J&B Recycling, have invested over £150,000 in electric vehicles over the last 12-months as their focus turns to the long-term sustainability of business operations.

HARTLEPOOL, U.K. - Aug. 25, 2022 - PRLog -- As a waste management company, J&B Recycling is well positioned to understand the environmental factors that contribute to biodiversity loss, climate change and global warming.

Good waste management is essential in safeguarding the environment from the toxic effects of inorganic and biodegradable elements present in waste. Mismanagement of waste can cause water contamination, soil erosion and air contamination, which leads to a loss of biodiversity, climate change and global warming.

Over the last 10 years, J&B Recycling has invested tens of millions of pounds in its operations to ensure the most efficient, award-winning, recycling processes. The team is now turning its attention to see if long-term sustainability of its operations across the business can be improved even further.

Vikki Jackson-Smith, Managing Director, recognises that there is some work to do to achieve a truly sustainable business. She says: "We understand the importance of working sustainably to help tackle global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution and we are taking a long hard look at all our internal operations to make sure we are leading the way in our approach."

"There are lot of things that we do well, but inevitably there are areas for improvement. Here at J&B we were operating 24 road vehicles and 16 mobile plant vehicles on fossil fuels, so one area we identified early in the process was the need to move towards more electric commercial vehicles."

Electric vehicles can diminish harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 50% or more compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Matthew Tyrie, Operations Director, says: "We trialled our first electric forklift truck last year to ensure it could work effectively on site. The trial was a great success and we have now purchased two electric forklifts, with a third on its way in the coming weeks."

It's not just electric forklifts that are helping pave the way towards a more sustainable future for J&B Recycling. Matthew adds, "We recently changed energy supplier to ensure we have a 100% sustainable energy supply, which is all generated through renewable sources. Last year we installed an electrical vehicle charging point in the car park, with another planned for later this year as we already have some EVs and plug in hybrids in our fleet of company cars."

There is no 'one right solution' to becoming a sustainable business, but J&B Recycling have begun to map out how they can work better to help safeguard the environment for future generations.
