ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Jan. 4, 2024 - PRLog -- At a packed opening on December 14, 2023, a community gathered at the Bradley-Sullivan LGBTQ Community Center to celebrate Arta Through The Lookingglass, the newest work by local artist Arta Brito. After a successful career in New York and the Lehigh Valley as a portrait artist, Brito has turned her talents to confessional self-portraiture, exploring the nuances of an identity transition in the context of a history of cultural censorship and distortion. In some of the works Brito, an Ecuadorian American, confronts the colonialist history of erasure and genocide of two spirit traditions in the indigenous culture. Other pieces take a more intimate approach, celebrating the blossoming and transformation of her body in its new-found femininity.

Artist Talk with Arta Brito and Mark Wonsidler: Saturday January 27, 2-4 pm Arta Brito will be appearing in conversation with Mark Wonsidler, curator of exhibitions and collections at Lehigh University Art Galleries to discuss the exhibition and its many intersectional themes. The discussion is open to the public with a live Q&A at the end.
