SELECT, U.K. - April 22, 2024 - PRLog -- Destination Seafood Restaurant, The Fish Market, Looe Celebrates Successful Renovation and Reopening.

After a recent renovation, The Fish Market (http://www.thefishmarketlooe.com/) restaurant in Looe has reopened its doors and popular kitchen to its loyal customers.  The quayside restaurant, owned by chef Fred Alsop, is renowned for its premium menu of fresh, sustainably sourced seafood and its extensive wine list. The Fish Market, celebrating its third successful year of business, has extended its covers and expanded its outside eating space to expand its offer.

The redesign of the 20-seat space, led mainly by Fred himself, features coastal-inspired decor with shades of blue, grey, and white. An open kitchen and hand-built bar highlight the freshness of the seafood, and customers can see their dishes as Fred prepares them. Patio seating is also available, providing another 20 seats overlooking Looe Harbour, where fishermen deliver their catch directly to the door each day, providing some of the lowest food miles imaginable.

Initially launched as a pop-up takeaway service during the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, The Fish Market Restaurant opened in May 2021 after repeated customer pleas for a restaurant destination. "We were overwhelmed by the community support for our takeaway service during lockdown," says Fred Alsop, Chef and Owner of The Fish Market. "It allowed us to focus on high-quality, simple seafood dishes and fine-tune our menu before launching as a restaurant. We're excited to welcome people back to our newly refurbished space and provide an unforgettable dining experience".

Fred continues "The Fish Market's story highlights our resilience and ability to thrive as an eatery despite the hospitality industry's current challenges. With the support of loyal customers and staff, we have found ways to navigate the crisis and grow as a business".

Fred's career has been deeply rooted in the Looe Quayside, where his restaurant is located. His parents ran a wholesale fish business just 20 yards from his restaurant, supplying fine-dining restaurants throughout the UK. Fred's passion for food was almost inevitable. Growing up, he would often accompany his father on deliveries to the kitchens of chefs such as Nathan Outlaw, Rick Stein, and John Campbell.

After spending time working within the family business, Fred decided to take the plunge and move more directly into hospitality. Starting at the bottom of the culinary industry, Fred learnt from several chefs to whom he had once supplied fish. When the opportunity to open The Fish Market came, Fred admits, the learning curve was steep but professionally rewarding. Fred, who describes himself as neuro-divergent, feels this has been a strength in helping him learn the many facets of running a restaurant.

After three years of successful business, Fred and The Fish Market continue to flourish, and he is soon to be working alongside local chef and Great British Menu winner Ben Palmer as they reunite in their involvement with the ever-growing Looe Food Festival in September.

Ben, who owns the Looe-based Sardine Factory restaurant, says, "I've known Fred for several years now, and I'm in love with his culinary style and what he does. It's unfussy and straight to the point! His attitude to our industry is to be admired. He has no time for nonsense. It's just pure brilliant cooking and big on flavour. We all need a bit of Fred in our lives."

Fred says, "Coming from what might be considered an unorthodox background of cookery, it's a real privilege to participate in the festival to help put Looe's growing food culture on the map and have a forum to talk about the restaurant and my passions within the industry."

Fred concludes 'Our aim for the restaurant is to showcase delicious, sustainable seafood in an upscale yet approachable setting. Between the renovation, menu, and service, we've created something extraordinary. Our menu offers the opportunity to try locally sourced fish often destined for foreign markets and supports a wider community. We are thrilled to be celebrating nearly three years of business and for what the future holds for us".
