An Impossible View: Lowell Painter Exhibits images of Alzheimer's Disease

LOWELL, Mass. - April 24, 2024 - PRLog -- "Inner Workings," an art exhibition featuring new paintings by Lowell artist Diana Zipeto, will be held from April 27 through June 8 at the 2^nd Floor Mini Gallery at Western Avenue Studios, located at 122 Western Ave., in Lowell, MA. The gallery space is located near studio 241 and is open daily from 10am–4pm and by appointment.

Exhibit receptions are scheduled for Saturday, May 4th and Saturday, June 8th from 1–3p.m. during Western Avenue Open Studios, and the public is invited to attend. An artist talk will accompany each reception at 2pm on both days. Additionally, a virtual exhibit will be accessible at www.dianazipeto.com.

The large-scale paintings in this series are based on the MRI scans that led to her father's Alzheimer's diagnosis. "I started the series three years ago as a way to try and process what was happening to my dad, and to millions of other families," explained Zipeto. "When a disease is incurable, what feelings are we left with?"

Included within the exhibition is a dedicated space for visitors to share their own narratives of individuals affected by brain-related illnesses. Zipeto hopes that the exhibit will serve as a space for personal reflection and shared experiences. "I believe that collectively grieving and acknowledging our helplessness can move us towards a place of acceptance. Opening ourselves up to the deep brokenness and deterioration that happens in a human life can be, in the end, what repairs us."

Bio

Based in Lowell, Massachusetts, artist Diana Zipeto's recent series explores questions about disease, family, loss, and mortality. A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she has exhibited in group and solo shows across the United States and received numerous grants in support of her projects.
