Oakland Neighborhood Association Revives Neighborhood

3 Years In Turning Waterfront Neighborhood From Disaster to Booming

OAKLAND, Calif. - May 2, 2024 - PRLog -- Oakland Neighborhood Association Celebrates 3 Years of Community Bonding and Progress

Oakland, CA - May 1, 2024 - The Embarcadero Neighborhood Association proudly announces its third anniversary, marking 3 years of unwavering commitment to fostering community cohesion and progress.

Since its inception,  the Embarcadero Neighborhood Association has been a beacon of hope, bridging the gap between neighbors, businesses, and local authorities to create a safer, more vibrant, and inclusive community. Three years ago you couldn't walk down the sidewalk on either side of the Embarcadero between Livingston and Dennison Streets. The same was true for 22nd Avenue, the Bay Trail and most of Union Point Park. It was full of broken down motorhomes, structures and trash. Residents were afraid to go out at night and crime was rampant. Long time businesses in the area, including the Downtown Charter Academy, were considering moving. Something had to be done.

Raymond Gallagher and Joseph Conley property owners with more than 100 years of experience in the neighborhood had never seen things this bad and decided to do something about it by forming the Embarcadero Neighborhood Association on May 1, 2021. With their guidance the association grew to 120 members and City Officials began to listen and take action. The Embarcadero, the Bay Trail. 22nd Avenue and most of Union Point Park were cleared. Businesses and residents stayed and the neighborhood is thriving with an award winning school, high tech manufacturing, a winery, more than 100 different businesses, dozens of lofts and live/work spaces, hundreds of hotel rooms, various restaurants, a dance club, yoga studios and gyms, a rowing club, and 500 berths for boats. The Loom, an event space in the Cotton Mill building is hosting amazing events through May 19th bringing thousands of people to our neighborhood, many for the first time. Our waterfront community is booming.
