By: International Plein Air Painters Organization 94 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550 (845) 569-4997/Fax- The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum presents FAR AND NEAR HORIZONS A Group Exhibition Inaugurating a World Tour of Work from the International Plein Air Painters (IPAP) and Landscape Artists International (LAI) Saturday, June 2 – Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Working in the great tradition of those French Impressionists who revolutionized landscape painting by capturing the magic of natural outdoor light, plein air artists have transcended regional limits and now include artists from all over the world. The International Plein Air Painters (IPAP) and Landscape Artists International (LAI) are both independent groups celebrating the natural world and promoting the appreciation of landscape painting in nature as “a metaphysical skill capable of creating an image that lets the viewer ‘be there in the moment.’ J. Baldini." Appropriately initiated in Newburgh, birthplace of the pioneering 19th-century landscape artist George Innes, the exhibition will travel throughout North America in 2007 and 2008, with events already scheduled for Colorado, Florida, and Vancouver, Canada. Among the artists featured will be J. Baldini, executive director and founder of IPAP; Karl Leitzel, founder of LAI; and local artist Linda Richichi, a signature member of IPAP who has taught plein air painting in Italy and France, as well as signature and charter members of both groups from Colorado, North Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Canada, the Czech Republic, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. The two organizations plan to arrange a “paint out” in the downtown area of Newburgh on Saturday, June 2, with the Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters. The public is invited to an opening celebration of this inaugural exhibition on Saturday, June 2, from 2 to 4 P.M. The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is located at 94 Broadway, across from City Hall, in the City of Newburgh.
