Indian-born Medical Student Receives Prestigious British Prize

Cochrane Prize 2007 from the Faculty of Public Health, United Kingdom, is awarded to Indian-born Birmingham medical student Rahul Potluri for his work related to paediatric obesity in Indian populations.

July 9, 2007 - PRLog -- The prestigious Cochrane Prize 2007 from the Faculty of Public Health, United Kingdom, has been awarded to Indian-born Birmingham medical student Rahul Potluri. Rahul was awarded the prize for his research comparing paediatric obesity in Indians living in the UK and India. He collected the prize at the Faculty’s annual conference where he also disseminated the work to top British Doctors and Scientists. The work was supervised by noted researchers Dr Paramjit Gill, Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Birmingham and Dr Jeetesh Patel, Research Scientist, Sandwell Medical Research Unit.

Rahul who was born and brought up in Andhra Pradesh, India until the age of eight has been involved in Medical Research in the field of Cardiovascular Medicine and Public Health for the past four years alongside his medical training in the University of Birmingham and has presented his work at numerous international conferences on a variety of topics. He wishes to make significant contributions to improve the practice of medicine especially in the South-Asian populations in which he identifies a dearth of knowledge. He hopes that more and more medical students worldwide can identify inadequacies in medical knowledge, develop an interest in medical research and push forward the boundaries of medical practice.
