By: Dr BR Natarajan With a firm belief in Leadership through Partnering, Strides has a tieup with top Pharma majors across the world who are truly global in skills sets, R & D, Manufacturing practices as well as attitude and vision. For the Human Resource Development needs, Strides chose Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Rajasthan and signed a MoU in March 2004 for offering a 2 year MS in Pharmaceutical Operations & Management as a work integrated learning program for the employees at Bangalore. BITS Pilani is one among the top ranking universities in India today offering degrees in various branches of Engineering, Management, Economics, Pharmacy, Sciences, Engineering Technology, Information Systems, General Studies, Finance, etc presently at Pilani, Dubai, Goa campuses and in the near future at Hyderabad campus. The Pharmacy Group of BITS, Pilani is one of the few early schools of Pharmacy in India. Established in 1950, under the able leadership of (Late) Prof. M. L. Schroff, Father of Pharmacy Education in India, it has blossomed into one of the most sought after Schools of Pharmacy in India. Apart from Strides Arco, BITS Pilani collaboration with other Pharma Majors includes Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Matrix Laboratories, Dabur Pharma, Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Wockhardt Ltd., GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare R&D, Genix Pharma Ltd., Central Drug Research Institute, Industrial Toxicology Research Centre and IPCA Laboratories Ltd. Right from 1979, BITS Pilani has set a benchmark in Industry University collaborations by addressing the Human Resource Development issue of various industries by launching an array of work integrated learning programmes to synergize the workplace requirements of the industry with the learning requirements of the university. The first batch of BITS Pilani Strides Arcolab Bangalore collaboration which started in 2004 resulted in 27 employees successfully completing the same and the second batch which started in 2005 resulted in 24 employees successfully completing the same. On 12th January 2008, the graduation function of the second batch of this collaborative program took place at the Walton Hall of Bangalore’s finest corporate hotel the Chancery. The dignitaries who attended the function from Stides included senior executives, graduating students and their families, faculty members who had taught the various courses in the curriculum and Mr sanjay Singh Coordinator for BITS Pilani Bangalore off campus centre. Vice President HR of Strides Mr K Raghavendra welcomed the gathering and emphasized on the role of HR in achieving corporate excellence. Mr. Arun Kumar Managing Director & CEO of Strides congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to put to use the knowledge acquired for the benefit of society at large. Prof BR Natarajan, Dean Work Integrated Learning Programmes BITS Pilani in his address also read out the congratulatory message from Prof L K Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor BITS Pilani after which the successful candidates received their final degree certificates and top ranking three students their special awards. Every nano move so far made by Strides has led to giant leaps and in India today, this collaboration of Strides with BITS Pilani is yet another benchmark in industry university linkages.
