Poetic Crossing: Contemporary Spanish Artists Exhibition at ArtHaus66 Gallery in Albuquerque

May 13, 2008 - PRLog -- Travesia Poetica (http://www.arthaus66.com) provides a comprehensive and coherent view of contemporary art in Spain. It is the first installment of a series of shows focused on Spanish artists that will take place at ARTHAUS66, a local Albuquerque art gallery (http://www.arthaus66.com), every six months. The collaborating artists come from many different cities: Palencia, Madrid, Zaragoza, Murcia, Barcelona, Burgos, Valencia…This rich medley accurately represents the diversity of cultures and languages that construct modern day Spain. The astonishing variety of tendencies and techniques present in the exhibit, also convey the extraordinary artistic curiosity and freedom that permeates their environment. Photography, painting, drawing and printmaking all find a place in Spain’s fertile artistic landscape.

Despite differences in background, the voice of each one of these Spanish artists comes across loud and clear. All the images are strong and intensely personal. The result is a bright and energetic symphony of line, form and color. A collective speech that exposes an underlying artistic tradition well anchored in contemporary Spain. There are no nostalgic glances at a lost, golden past but rather a determined forward impulse that reaffirms each artist’s commitment to his or her vision. This dynamic force evident in all of the artists eradicates stereotypes and preconceived notions about Spain by seamlessly blending tradition with innovation.

Javier Albar Mansoa is a graphic artist from Madrid, Spain who produces highly abstract pieces with a restrained and subtle palette. Circles, jagged lines and solid masses of black create compelling designs of powerful presence.
Antonio Fernandez Alvira was born in Huesca, Spain in 1977.  His drawings and mixed media paintings explore the roles of men in modern society and the essence of male identity.
Luis Castelo was born in Barruelo de Santillan in Palencia, Spain in 1961. His work documents the ephemeral beauty of the natural world in photographs of exquisite intricacy and poignant stillness.
Diego Fermin was born in Zaragoza, Spain. He currently resides in Toulouse, France. He is an accomplished illustrator and a toy maker whose work is full of dark humor and sinister characters.
Eva Poyato was born in Cartagena, Spain. Her images are succinct and elegant. Landscapes void of the human element but emotionally charged and beautifully poetic.
Nefario Monzon was born in Zaragoza, Spain in 1974. He has published a number of art-brut books. He is the co-creator of the art magazine "La Canicheria" and his illustrations and paintings are powerful images of deceiving simplicity.
Moises Yagues was born in Murcia, Spain in 1972. His latest work comments on the very controversial issue of immigration and the arbitrary nature of borders.
Sofia Basterra Burns is a young Spanish painter from Zaragoza. Her paintings are fresh, colorful and lighthearted with mature undertones that tell a deeper story.




ARTHAUS66 is the newest art space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is committed to providing the community with beautiful, cutting edge artwork from Europe and the United States at affordable prices. The minimal and modern interior helps the artwork shine as it commands the visitors’ attention on the impeccably lighted walls. The gallery is currently housed at a newly remodeled space along the historic Route66. ARTHAUS66  represents a departure from Albuquerque's offering of local trends and styles. Travesía Poética: Contemporary Spanish Artists runs from May 1st to June 22nd 2008. The opening reception will take place Friday, June 6th 2008 from 5 -9 pm.
