Energy Island Presenting At US-China Green Tech Summit

Modular man-made islands featuring sustainable, high-output power generation and water desalination facilities will be presented in Shanghai on November 12-14, 2008.

Oct. 28, 2008 - PRLog -- Shanghai - UltraFuture, the global thinktank and brain trust, announced last week that they are working in support of the Energy Island project. Energy Island is a sustainable, modular, power generating island, developed and supported by a consortium of leading architects and engineering firms such as Parsons Brinckeroff, Noble Denton, Halcrow, Dominic Michaelis, and Dr. Luis Vega. UltraFuture and the consortium are preparing to present the project at the US-China GreenTech Summit this November 12-14th in Shanghai.

David Harris, Managing Director of UltraFuture, was very positive about Energy Island's progress in an interview earlier this week. "This should be a very productive Summit for us. We have received an exceptional amount of interest in Energy Island, and this Summit provides us an opportunity to meet with technical project partners, developers, high-level government officials and private sector backers from two countries that can benefit most from this technology."

Energy Island's renewable power generation provides a solution for clean energy and energy independence, which are both high-priority goals for the US and China. These islands consist of floating renewable energy platforms that take advantage of photovoltaics, wave energy, ocean current energy turbines, wind turbines, solar thermal towers and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). The islands are manufactured as modules, making the islands scalable and potentially mobile.

Vegetable farms, fish farms and homes for workers can all be constructed atop the islands. Each island has an area of approximately 1 square kilometer and is estimated to generate up to 250 megawatts of power and produce 300 million liters of desalinated water. Unused power can be transmitted back to the grid at the closest landmass, and desalinated water can be shipped by tanker to areas in need. Roughly 50,000 modules of the Energy Island design would be capable of meeting current global energy needs.
