Native American Heritage Month Activities Scheduled

November is Native American Heritage month. Created by presidential decree in 1978, this is an opportunity to promote cultural understanding between Native and non-Native Americans. Chief George "White Antelope" Dodge has activities scheduled.

Nov. 6, 2008 - PRLog -- Pensacola, FL– In conjunction with Native American Heritage Month, Chief George White Antelope Dodge, President of First Nations Intertribal Association, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 organization, established to assist Native American People living in difficult conditions, has a variety of activities scheduled.  
•   Thursday, November 6th, Chief Dodge will travel to Florosa Elementary School in Okaloosa County to pick up a supply of used books and math flash cards as part of his continuing effort to collect relief supplies, clothing and educational products for Reservation children.
•   November 7, 8 & 9, The Thunderbird Intertribal Council, Inc. will host the 21st Annual Native American Powwow at the Niceville Mullet Festival Grounds in Niceville, FL. This event is designed to educate the local community and promote cultural understanding and good-will between Native and non-Native persons. Chief Dodge will direct a group of photographers from the Wide Angle Photo Club as they document this event.  
•   Monday, November 10th, Chief Dodge will meet with 3&4 year olds at Gateway Christian Pre-School in Pensacola.  He will discuss Native American musical instruments, clothing, artifacts and food.
•   Radio Station WRNE, 980 AM, will host Chief Dodge, each week on Friday mornings at 7 AM, during the month of November, as he discusses Native American culture and history and answers callers questions. Listeners can participate by calling 850 478-6000. This is the only local  radio celebration of Native American Heritage Month.
•   Thursday, November 20th, Chief Dodge will be recognized during the Pensacola City Council meeting with a presentation by Mike Burns, Special Assistant to the Governor, with a Point of Light Award for outstanding service to the Indian community.  In this event Chief Dodge will be recognized for his work to assist Native Americans living in difficult conditions on reservations in North America. His efforts also extend as far as Guatemala and Honduras as well.  The Mayor of Pensacola will co-present this award with Mike Burns.

In addition to these events, Chief Dodge, who writes regularly for a Spanish language periodical, La Voz del Latino, has an article featured on the front cover of the November 7th, 2008 issue.  

Also, The Gosport, a military personnel and dependents publication, November 7, 2008 edition is including an article featuring the Wounded Warriors’ (soldiers recovering from active duty wounds) assistance to Chief Dodge’s efforts by loading a truck with supplies headed to Native Americans.
