Bush, Governor David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz all honored Award Winning Actor Kevin Byrd for his Acting Work, Community Service & Prostate Cancer Awareness Advocacy. In 2008 Actor Kevin Byrd was featured guest speaker at the Eagle Academy for young men, a high school established by 100 Black Men, including Bill Cosby, Johnny Cochran, & Danny Glover. He continues to motivate students whenever he has free time. In addition, he was honored along with Cheryl “Salt Wray of Salt & Pepper at the at the 2008 Unlock Your Dreams Conference, featured as a special guest speaker at Rikers Island Adolescent Jail where he spoke to the prison population about his life and performed from his award winning show ”Release” the character of Bruno, earned a cover story in Life & Times of Utica along with Aretha Franklin, launched his International Kevin Byrd online store selling over 115 products from his career; Posters, DVD’s, T-shirts etc. to raise money help raise greater awareness & help educate individuals regarding Prostate Cancer, established the Non-for-Profit BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign, special guest appearance at show “Wizard of Was” at The Stanley Theater in Utica, N.Y. (Kevin Byrd starred as the scarecrow in the original premiere in 1996 Directed by Cassandra Lockwood). Byrd participated on health care panel along side Dr. Brian Harper ( Ralph Lauren Cancer Center ) and spoke about Prostate Cancer Awareness, Education, and Early Detection. Kevin Byrd is an Internationally Acclaimed Award Winning Actor known for his portrayal of Lt. John R. Fox, in the History Channel movie, (“Honor Deferred”) hosted by Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson and produced by AL Roker. Lt. Fox a WW II hero who killed 100 German Soldiers in the War, and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor five decades after his heroic acts by President Clinton. The movie picked up a NAMIC VISION Award Nomination and garnered great reviews. The likeness of Lt. John R. Fox was transformed into a G.I Joe Action Figure by Hasbro the following year. In addition Kevin Byrd currently stars in his own Off Broadway show “Release”. The show depicts the six stages of development of men from the ages 18 to 65 years old.
