Dec. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- Dailymotion, the world’s largest independent video sharing site, is to run an online film premier for ‘WMD’ this weekend.  The film, a political thriller offering a fictional account of the intelligence in advance of the war with Iraq, will be broadcast simultaneously when it premiers at CINECITY, The Brighton Film Festival on Saturday night.  It will be available to stream on www.dailymotion.com/gb all weekend until 10.00 on Monday 8th December.

‘WMD’, David Holroyd’s debut feature as a director, is set in 2002.  A fictional account inspired by real events, ‘WMD’ suggests what intelligence circles really knew in the build-up for war with Iraq.  Intelligence sources report Saddam has biochemical weapons ready for immediate launch.  But when MI6 desk officer, Alex Morgan uncovers deliberate flaws in the evidence being used to support invasion, he has to decide whether to risk his career and even his safety to reveal the web of lies.

The online premier will be broadcast simultaneously with a showing at the Sallis Benney Theatre at 2pm on Saturday 6th December as part of The Brighton Film Festival.  This is the sixth time Brighton has hosted CINECITY, which is presented in partnership with the University of Brighton and the Duke of York’s Picturehouse and cinemas across Brighton and Hove.  It features a global mix of UK premieres and previews, archive material and live cinema events.

The film’s distributor, Eric Stevens of Independent Digital, explains, “Working with Dailymotion means our film can be viewed by a global audience online at the same time as it is viewed at CINECITY in Brighton.  Dailymotion has a natural affinity with the filmmaking community and is the best platform to stream a full-length film like ours because of its high quality video player.”

Digby Lewis, Creative Director of Dailymotion UK adds, “WMD is a thrilling film using a CCTV style and found footage visual approach which draws the viewer into the conspiracy.  It’s a powerful way to deliver a strong story and I’m sure it will appeal to our viewers. The online premier will help reinforce our position as a long-form content programmer and offers a good addition to our short form content.  Dailymotion’s HQ player will deliver an excellent online viewing experience for people watching the film at home around the world.”

Dailymotion is the world's largest independent video sharing site.  It offers a mix of official content from partners such as ITNON, Channel 4, Viacom/MTV Networks and Universal Music, alongside user-generated content and creative content from independent film makers, ‘Motionmakers’, which is curated by Dailymotion’s programming team.  Launched in 2005, Dailymotion has 38.8 million unique users per month (comScore October, 2008) with 15,000 more videos uploaded each day.  The site aims to increase its independent film content and has worked with Raindance, the UK’s largest independent film festival, and the Independent British Film Awards in recent months.

‘WMD’ supports War Child, the international children’s charity that works with children in some of the world’s most dangerous war zones including Iraq, Afghanistan, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their work with former child soldiers, children in prison and children living and working on the streets gives them support, protection and opportunities.
