Dec. 10, 2008 - PRLog -- With a ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, the new state-of-the-art 10,000-sq.ft. Life Without Limits Therapy Center, located in Irvine’s Jeffrey Office Park at 980 Roosevelt near the I-5 Freeway at Jeffrey Blvd., opened its doors to serve Orange County children with disabilities.

The Life Without Limits Therapy Center, part of the United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County (UCP-OC) organization, is dedicated to providing physical, occupational and speech therapy along with recreational activities to Orange County children with disabilities like cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, spina bifida, and cognitive impairments, among others.  The center is expected to serve 225 Orange County children per week for a total of nearly 12,000 visits in its first year.

Lauren Beeler, PT, PCS NDTA, has been named as the center’s director of therapy.  An expert clinician and therapist trainer, she is a pediatric certified specialist with a degree in physical therapy from Indiana University.  Beeler is a former clinical instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Loma Linda University and a coordinator instructor for the Neuro-Development Treatment Association.

An Open House Holiday Party held at the facility on Dec. 4, 2008, featured a public ribbon cutting ceremony conducted to inaugurate the opening of the new building.  A ceremonial ribbon tied across the building’s main entrance was cut by Richard Cohn, UCP-OC Board Vice President, to declare the building open to receive its first families.

In attendance were: Paul Pulver, UCP-OC executive director; Grant Dunning, UCP-OC associate executive director, operations; Kathleen McFarlin, UCP-OC associate executive director, Programs; Lauren Beeler, UCP-OC director of therapy services; Rich Cohn, partner at Aitken, Aitken & Cohn and UCP-OC Board vice president; Irvine Mayor Beth Krom; Christian Dubia, board chairperson, Regional Center of Orange County; Glenn Roquemore, Irvine Valley College president; Al Tello, IVC Foundation director; Bonner Paddock, senior manager of corporate partnerships for the Honda Center/Anaheim Ducks.

“This new facility ranks among the nation’s best for serving children with disabilities and their families, and its opening demonstrates our continued commitment to helping children live a Life Without Limits,” said Paul Pulver, UCP-OC executive director.  “We wish to thank our donors and the community for their continued support that has made this wonderful moment possible.  High-quality therapy is the top priority among parents because it provides the greatest hope for maximizing a child’s potential.”

Pulver said that fundraising efforts are underway to provide for needed therapeutic equipment and naming rights to the center’s therapy rooms are available, which will help sustain the center’s ongoing services.

The Life Without Limits Therapy Center occupies the ground floor of the two-story 20,000-sq. ft. building, which features a reddish-brown burnished block exterior and full-height glass windows that afford light, color and spaciousness to the interior along with a view of the Irvine foothills as a scenic backdrop.

The Jeffrey Office Park (JOP), located between Jeffrey Road and the I-5 Freeway, encompasses 22 acres and includes 50 office buildings featuring suites ranging in size from 5,000 to 20,000 square feet.  The park is landscaped with greenery and fountains to create a serene and inviting campus-like environment.

United Cerebral Palsy leases the therapy center’s space from Irvine-based BaccHus Development, Orange County's premier commercial real estate developer.  JOP provides easy access to the I-5, I-405 and 133 freeways to better serve the communities of south Orange County, and is just minutes away from the retail and restaurant amenities at the Irvine Spectrum Entertainment Center and the Irvine & Tustin Marketplace.

The Life Without Limits Therapy Center is divided into two areas—an administrative side with offices and meeting rooms for 25 on-site employees, and a treatment side with a parents’ lounge, four therapy rooms, a recreation room, and two therapy gyms.

The therapy center is a well-equipped, professional facility that incorporates:

•   Individual therapy rooms providing occupational, physical and speech therapy in a calm, controlled environment.
•   A team of highly qualified, caring therapists who work in partnership to address the unique needs of each child and family.
•   Evidence-based services for children from infancy through adolescence.
•   A variety of fun and therapeutic equipment, including adaptive swings, benches and balance beams.

•   Recreational activities such as dance, yoga, art and martial arts.

The following resources will be available:
•   A resource library containing catalogs for adaptive equipment, therapy products, advocacy information, and community resource guides.
•   Access to UCP-OC's Family Support Services including Special Sitters, Saturday Club, Swap Meet and Parent Connection.
•   Computer stations with Internet access and links to disability-related services and information.
•   Access to UCP-OC’s other programs such as Early Intervention, Childcare, and Respite Services.
•   Activities to keep siblings engaged while they wait.
•   Parent workshops.
•   Individualized training to assist parents in partnering with therapists, incorporating therapy activities within their home routine.
