Technology Incubator Brings Industry Leaders and Government Officials to the Table in San Pedro, CA

Dec. 24, 2008 - PRLog -- San Pedro, California - In a packed conference room, one week before Christmas, company executives and government officials met with the San Pedro Bay Port Technologies Development Center development team to be introduced to the project and to discuss partnership opportunities with the technology incubator.

During the roundtable discussion that followed the project presentation, key representatives from the railroad, energy, recycling and legal sectors, among others, explained their interest in the project and how their organizations can benefit from ensuring that the project is successful. Bill Lyte of San Pedro's Technoplex Group, which co-organized the event, stated: "We will soon see the day when San Pedro and Wilmington are recognized as the international center of  ‘green’ and sustainable port technology.”

The large turnout at the event was an indication that both private and public investors see emerging green technologies as imperative for the future of the international maritime industry. The electric buzz that began before the briefing, and lasted until well after the formal event ended, was a clear sign that the Port Technologies Development Center has succeeded in designing a project with the goals, methods, and projected outcomes that meet the needs of both industry and society.  

The San Pedro Bay Port Technologies Development Center, which has been in development for the past year, has received the endorsement of Senator Barbara Boxer, Congresswoman Jane Harman, Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Councilwoman Janice Hahn, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and others. The Center has also concluded a cooperative working agreement with the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.
