Follow on Google News | Two New Concerts: The Rock Tenor" and "Classic M: The Music Of Motown, USA" Premiere In NYCBlue Eyed Theatrical, Producer Jay Harris, and Norus Productions announce limited public ticket availability for a showcase of two new concerts: "The Rock Tenor" and "Classic M: The Music of Motown, USA."
"The Rock Tenor" is a new concert experience that brings together classical and Broadway music with some of the greatest rock and roll songs ever written. The show was conceived by the show's feature performer: Broadway, concert and recording star Rob Evan (Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) who approached director Vincent Marini a few years ago about inventing a concert that could seamlessly meld a variety of classic anthems across a wide variety of musical styles that share common themes, lyrics or melodies. Over the next two years, the pair developed "The Rock Tenor" which currently features music by: The Beatles, U2, Journey, Daughtry, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Police and Queen, fused with the sounds of: Bach, Beethoven, Puccini, Handel, Bernstein, Webber, Rodgers, and Sondheim. On January 11, Rob Evan will be joined by featured singers Patti Russo (MeatLoaf), Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar), Laura Osnes (Grease) and Tad Wilson (Rock of Ages) along with a group of the most versatile musicians in New York to give audiences a preview of the upcoming 2009-2010 concert tour. This preview is made possible in part, through the generous support of Linda C. Russak. "Classic M: The Music of Motown, USA" - From 1959-1972, the city of Detroit changed the sound of American music forever. It was a new brand of popular music that introduced artists like: Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and Lionel Richie to the world. Their sound was a new style of soul music with a distinct American pop influence. It was a sound that transcended class, race and nationality. Now, four decades later, "Classic M" is a new concert that celebrates the Detroit sound with a group of the most talented young performers in the country performing songs with the same passion and unbridled joy as the original artists. They are backed by a seven-piece band playing authentic arrangements of the classic hits. The show takes you on a musical journey where a group of eight performers dance, sing, and recreate the energy and excitement of the original performances. This is not a tribute show where the performers impersonate well-known singers and bands. Instead, it is a new generation of artists reinterpreting the original music with a verve and energy not seen in generations. The show is being directed by Vincent Marini with choreography by Kelly Devine, arrangements, orchestrations, and music direction by Joe Church and feature performances by Lawrence Clayton (Bells Are Ringing, The Civil War, Once Upon a Mattress, Dreamgirls) and Ramona Keller (Brooklyn, Caroline or Change, Smokey Joe's Cafe). Additional performers include: Darren Lorenzo, Keldon LaVar Price, Angela Grovey, Lakisha Anne Bowen and James Jackson, Jr. The showcase for "The Rock Tenor" and "Classic M" is part of the 2009 Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference which takes place from January 9-13 in New York City.
