By: Jac Bowie PR & Events MEDIA RELEASE THE BURLESQUE BALL "Burlesque is a humorous theatrical entertainment involving parody and sometimes exaggeration. Prior to Burlesque becoming associated with striptease, it was a form of musical and theatrical parody in which opera and a piece of classical theatre was adapted in a broad, often risqué style very different from that for which it was originally known." The Burlesque Ball was created in 2005 and coincided with the rise in popularity of Burlesque in Australia, and was the first event of its' kind to showcase Burlesque on such a grand scale. From small beginnings, The Burlesque Ball has grown into a huge spectacular, always showcasing Australia's leading acts. The Burlesque Ball is now internationally renowned as the biggest and most sophisticated event on the Australian Burlesque calendar. In 2009 The Burlesque Ball will showcase leading international acts, which includes one of America's leading performers, who will dazzle guests with her signature routine: - Amber Ray (New York) - Her pageantry is reminiscent of many iconic genres of the past and present and a major force in the evolving future culture of popular art. "Creative Sexpot" NY Magazine Each performance in the event show is a major production in itself and audiences will not see any 2min fan dancers in this production, just the highest level of sophisticated Burlesque performance. Often the performer has worked on their piece for up to 12 months in preparation. The audience is encouraged to "Dress to Impress" in black, red or Burlesque with a spectacular prize for the Best Dressed Award. The MC is legendary comedian Dave Bloustein. The Burlesque Ball is now in the third year of touring and in 2009 the tour includes, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and in 2010 the UK and Europe.
