Feb. 5, 2009 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. - MS Events, the volunteer organization coordinating several Triangle area bike and foot races, announces today the inaugural St. Patty’s Run Green 8K (www.stpattysrungreen.com) is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. The race, to be held in downtown Raleigh, will start and finish at Moore Square.

An earth-friendly event, the run is the first Race Without a Trace in Raleigh. Profits from the race benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina.

“We love that this event supports both the local needs of people afflicted with MS and the environment,” says Bruce Bokish, MS Events director.

As a part of Endurance Magazine’s Race Without a Trace series, the St. Patty’s Run Green 8K is minimizing landfill waste through the use of electronic race packets and compostable food and drink containers. Each participant will receive an Amphipod handheld water bottle to reduce paper cup use at water stops. The race also promotes earth-friendly education with the addition of an expo area.

“Our role in developing the Race Without a Trace series is to create as much influence for environmental sustainability as possible,” says Thys Wind, director of events at Endurance Magazine.

The St. Patty’s Run Green 8K is a U.S.A. Track and Field sanctioned competitive race that takes runners through a newly certified, downtown course. The race utilizes ChampionChip® timing to assure competitive accuracy.

Presenting sponsors Fleet Feet Sports of Raleigh, Tir na nOg Irish Pub and Brooks® Sports are awarding more than 30 prizes. Prize divisions include: the fastest male and female runners in 12 different age groups, fastest overall, fastest master runner, and fastest kilt-wearing runner. In addition, every one-hundredth race participant to finish receives a free pair of Brooks shoes.
