Ssfoa Response To Media Access At Dover

In light of President Obama’s remarks and Secretary Gates comments on reviewing the policy of denying the media access to our honored dead arriving home at Dover AFB, we have been asked to comment.

The SSFOA is a non partisan organization whose only mission is to remember, honor and assist the wounded and ill of our armed forces.  As such we distance ourselves from engaging in rhetoric of a political nature unless it involves our mission and or it adversely affects the military of the United States.

Thus, in our opinion, allowing the news media free access to Dover is not acceptable.

While the news media could honor and respect the will of the family and our fallen, they may also use the images to politicize our WOT and bring about consequences that occurred during the Vietnam War and would not be in our Nations best interests.

However, ultimately this issue must be addressed by the Gold Stars. The mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters of our fallen:  It is imperative that their wishes be observed at ALL times.

The Silver Star Families of America will back the Gold Stars with all our hearts and all our resources up to and including legal recourse.

This issue is for them to decide, not our politicians or bureaucrats.
