March 4, 2009 - PRLog -- Toronto Canada. Ivanhoe Cambridge, the premier Canadian shopping Centre owner and development company, has announced its new property, CrossIron Mills will open in August of 2009. The mall is the first indoor shopping centre to be built in Calgary in 20 years and will serve the burgeoning metropolitan region of Calgary. Located  7 miles from the Calgary International Airport, it will be anchored by a number of major retail businesses including Bass Pro Shops, Pro Hockey Life, Toys R Us, and will include a state of the Art Racing Entertainment System.

CrossIron Mills is a huge new retail shopping centre by Ivanhoe Cambridge set to open late this summer in the north end of Calgary. The much anticipated mall will be home to more than 175 retail stores, boutiques and shops. The mall is the first indoor mall to be built in the Calgary area in 20 years. At more than 1.1 million square feet (1,178,002.4 sq ft) of retail and entertainment space), it will be comparable in size to Chinook Mall in south Calgary and will be anchored by 17 major stores including Winners, Tommy Hilfiger, Toys R’ Us, La Senza, HomeSense, Pro Hockey Life, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Lacoste Outlet, and Holt Renfrew Last Call. There will be more than 5,000 parking spaces for shoppers.

The total Trade Area of 1.5 million people beginning West to Banff, North to Red Deer, Southeast to Medicine Hat and South to Lethbridge, CrossIron Mills is located amidst  Canada’s most affluent and well-educated major market boasting the highest Retail Sales Per Capita. The shopping centre follows Ivanhoe Cambridge’s big success with the Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre in North Toronto located next to Canada’s Wonderland theme park. Calgary’s population has grown significantly in the last 20 years, more than 400,000 and the Calgary Airdrie corridor is very busy with traffic. “It’s ideally situated based on where the growth is coming in the area,” says Ivanhoe Cambridge vice-president of development John Scott.

CrossIron Mills Mall will be the first Calgary Mall to be designed to incorporate Calgary area themes. The mall will also showcase Alberta theme areas such as ones denoting energy, fossils and ranch designs.

It is expected the mall will attract shoppers who may now be travelling north to Edmonton to shop at West Edmonton Mall. For entertainment, the CrossIron Mills is located near a horse race track and will have a NASCAR go kart racing track, billiards and a bowling alley.

The Race Track and Racing Entertainment Centre

CrossIron Mills will incorporate a Race Track and Racing Entertainment Centre, operated by the United Horsemen of Alberta (UHA). The state-of-the-art horse racing facility will include a gaming parlour featuring slot machines, a buffet dining room and a simulcast room with an entertainment stage area. The entertainment stage area will hold racing events, musical performances, dancing, dining and a modern clubhouse with exceptional views of two premier racecourses – a one-mile thoroughbred track and a seven-furlong standardbred track.

Scott added, “From the beginning, Ivanhoe Cambridge and United Horsemen of Alberta shared the vision of creating an incredible destination for Albertans. We believe that UHA’s racing entertainment centres adds a very special element to the overall offering.”
