This Is The Beginning Of A Movement. You Are Not Powerless.

New blog 1 is saving the world in a minute.

April 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Every minute on the planet is critical for both environmental and humanitarian issues.   The sole purpose of this blog is to create a village of ideas and activists sharing information on the world’s problems and what can be done by any individual to help.
1 was launched by Elizabeth Alexander, a mother of four who felt overwhelmed by her inability to help.  “What can I do? I kept asking.” she says.  “Everywhere I looked I was blocked by my geography, my income limits, my lifestyle.  I kept thinking that talking about it wasn’t doing anything at all.”
That’s when she realized that talking about it collectively with a purpose may actually bring about a change. “People need to realize that if they share their ideas and encourage one another, small changes can turn into big differences when enough people are involved.”
But more than that, it became clear that the real power wielded by the average American people, particularly women, lies in consumerism.  Making the right choices, making educated buys with an awareness of the how they affect the world beyond our doorstep, is the most important action that can be taken.
Elizabeth is using her own business, Hygge Interiors, an environmentally conscience decorating firm for children, as a platform.  “This is more than choosing compact fluorescent light bulbs and car pooling, it’s becoming aware that the furniture we buy, the food we eat, the toys we play with are sometimes made on the backs of exploited people. Not only do the processes of manufacturing pollute the environment, they oppress the poor and make people sick all over the planet.”
In an effort to promote awareness of the blog and the issues it represents Elizabeth will be starting a drive both on Blogger and on Twitter  in conjunction with Bloggers Unite to raise money for Heifer International, a humanitarian organization that helps the poor of the world become sufficient.
“But it’s not always about money.  Even if you don’t have anything at all you can do something for someone…don’t be afraid to reach out your hand...or ask for help if you need it.”
If you had a minute to spare and that minute could make the difference in a  human life what would you do?
