May 4, 2009 - PRLog -- KEY WEST, Fla. – Unico Inc. will join President Truman’s grandson, Clifton Truman Daniel, and the Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation on Friday, May 15, for the rededication of the Harry S. Truman Little White House in Key West. The event is the culmination of a weeklong celebration of Truman’s 125th birthday.

Frequented by Thomas Edison, Edward Hayden, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, the home once served as the command headquarters of the U.S. Naval Station (photo at www.budurl.com/truhouse) and remains an active presidential site. Built in 1890, the state of Florida historic site is a 9,000-square-foot frame dwelling surrounded by an acre of botanical gardens. Visit www.trumanlittlewhitehouse.com for more background.

More than 85 percent of the historic fabric within the house remains intact, but previous attempts at installing central air conditioning had resulted in dirty coils and deteriorating air vents that endangered the precious artifacts in the 120-year-old landmark. Protecting the structure, original furnishings and documentary collections was a vital consideration when selecting an HVAC system. Unico’s small-duct, high-velocity system was an ideal fit because it could be installed without damaging the architectural integrity of the home, while also removing humidity and circulating clean air flow.

“I was already familiar with The Unico System and knew it was exactly what we needed to install at Truman House,” said Bob Wolz, executive director, Harry S. Truman Little White House. “We are extremely pleased with the system and have had numerous visitors ask for more information about how the system works.”

Eduardo Oyarce, Unico’s sales manager for the South Florida/Islands/Central America region, will be present at the rededication and will give tours of the HVAC installation upon request. The house is split in five zones with five air handling units and four UniChillers, completely self-contained air-to-water heat pump chillers that use chilled water circuit instead of refrigerant inside the house. A traditional system would have required additional condensing units to achieve zoned cooling, whereas The Unico System allows individual UniChillers to work in a single area without the entire system running at full capacity. Unico’s signature circular outlets were customized throughout Truman House to complement the existing décor (installation photo at www.budurl.com/truporch).

Refri Air, a Unico certified contractor, installed The Unico System. Marcone Heating and Cooling was the distributor.

The Unico System is a small-duct, high-velocity central heating and air conditioning system manufactured by Unico Inc. Ideal for custom home, historic preservation and niche commercial applications, The Unico System’s main trunk and flexible supply tubing can be installed in just one-third the space of more traditional HVAC ducting systems. Quieter and less visible than other systems, The Unico System provides superior indoor comfort that is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. For more information, visit www.unicosystem.com.
