Follow on Google News | US Energy Secretary Professor Steven Chu Ignorant of New Solar Technologies In White Roof Proposal.SolarAttic, Inc. announced today that the so-called white roof proposal of U.S. Secretary of Energy, Professor Steven Chu reflects an incredible ignorance of new technology
By: James Kantorowicz Ed Palmer, SolarAttic's president said: "The degree of technology ignorance reflected in the U.S. Energy Secretary's white roof proposal is astonishing. Over 20 years ago, SolarAttic developed technology that actually makes use of the solar heat collected in roof structures. Deployed nationwide, this technology could reduce annual space heating costs 30% in the USA. In addition, it could reduce electric domestic hot water heating costs 50% and all but eliminate pool heating costs. It could make productive use of the heat in big cities in the form of the heat island effect. Virtually all of this incident solar radiation can easily be placed into productive use eliminating the need to actually burn fossil fuels. On the pool heating side alone, the annual savings in imported oil are estimated to exceed the oil output of the Alaska oil fields if they were ever drilled. Aside from the ignorance of this solar thermal technology, the idea that incident solar radiation reaching anyo ne's roof top would actually be reflected back into space is seemingly incredulous. Ergo, this solar energy is already at near ground level. What makes anyone think it would be reflected back "into space" passing the so-called greenhouse gases that trap heat energy? Instead, it makes better sense to use this free solar energy and to stop burning the fossil fuels it can supplant. It's time for the government to get its head out of the crisis mentality it is in and into the actual energy technologies that could be immediately deployed and placed into volume production. " # # # SolarAttic's has patented technology that recovers solar heat from attics to heat homes, hot water and swimming pools. Further details are available at http://www.solarattic.com. End
