“prime Beach Reading With A Modern-day Religious Twist.”

May 30, 2009 - PRLog -- What would happen if two men, motivated by vengeance and money, decided to extort millions of dollars from America’s largest homegrown church?  One might expect protracted legal proceedings and inflammatory headlines.  Author K. Thomas Murphy’s new novel, End of Grace presents a very different scenario, one that leaves the reader wondering, could this happen?

Murphy, a technology expert by profession, put forth an exceptional page-turner for his debut novel.  End of Grace explores the church’s habit of converting millions of deceased souls into Mormonism, and turns the tables when someone starts baptizing Mormons into an alternative church.  Initially deemed a nuisance, Mormon leadership reacts with sinister professionalism when it’s discovered the baptisms have taken a toll on their tithing revenue stream.

While most people are at least somewhat familiar with Mormons, and some have definite opinions about them, Murphy manages to avoid all the stereotypes and deliver a fresh portrayal.  The reader finds themselves drawn into the all-too-real world of honest innocent people working diligently on behalf of their church, and power hungry leadership reacting desperately and violently to protect money.  It forces the reader to wonder if churches have become all too business-like, not at the local level, but certainly at the highest bastions of power.

While Murphy set out to write a technological thriller, the setting he chose has positioned End of Grace closer to techno-religious novels like Dan Browns Da Vinci Code.  It comes complete with well developed and likable characters, believable dialog, and a plot that is original, yet reminiscent of some of the great commercial fiction thrillers.   The technology is definitely there, but like the real world, it’s a back-story, not the main character.
