Saving Our Digital Generation: A 21ST Century Folk Legend in the Making

June 24, 2009 - PRLog -- To many he is known as this century’s visionary behind 21st Century Digital Responsibility.  In some circles he is referred to as the father of digital safety.  To his peers he is regarded as an instrumental leader of proactive 21st century education and awareness.  To his family, he is simply known as daddy.

His name is Richard Guerry, the visionary behind the rapidly expanding social norm called Responsibility 2.1C, a clever acronym for 21st Century Responsibility.  Richard’s innovative concept of 2.1C is our generation’s version of “playing with fire can burn” whereby digital technologies and devices play the role of fire.  There are many citizens of our global community that proclaim Richard to be a legend and 21st century folk hero in the making as his message is proactively saving lives across our planet,.  Further, he  is currently the only individual communicating a uniform, proactive approach and mindset  that applies to everyone on our planet that uses digital technology.   In fact, a 90 minute HD documentary is already being created by an award winning director about Richard and his live saving social norm 2.1C.

According to Don Kent, Chair of Net Literacy, “Rich is a leader and a visionary in the cell-phone and Internet safety space. He tackles the tough issues...including "sexting," a phenomenon that is impacting an increasing number of students throughout the world. Rich founded the IROC2 and he innovated a novel approach of reaching youths so that they stop - listen - and change their behavior. Digital Responsibility is a term Rich coined and as technology evolves...the consequences of not being responsible are becoming increasingly impactful to our youths’ lives and careers. Rich is a man with a mission and he is touching the lives of an increasing number of youths. So how much does Richard charge his global audiences whether they are students, parents, teachers, government officials, law enforcement, corporations or any other number of groups and organizations he speaks to?  A whopping $0.00, that’s right, nothing.  

Further, to date, Richard and his family have made many sacrifices as they are currently self funding a New Jersey based nonprofit titled The Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication also known as I.R.O.C.2 (I ROCK) to ensure every citizen across the globe, regardless of their financial situation, race, sex, gender and so forth are not deprived of the life saving and vital social norm “2.1C”.

Richard is currently the Executive Director of IROC2.org which makes this nonprofit, the only global nonprofit communicating “2.1C”.  It is Richard and the organization’s mission to ensure that every single individual that uses any form of digital technology knows and understands “2.1C” ASAP to ensure they understand 21st century digital safety, awareness, responsibility, and how to proactively avoid both current and future digital issues (like sextcasting) or what the Institute calls, Digital Diseases.

According to Richard, “What we must do is wake up and realize that we are all now part of a rapidly evolving 21st century digital generation, and we are each responsible for our own actions when using digital technologies. Think about it, practically everyone on our planet has grown up learning what we call responsibility 1.0 or offline responsibility, and even with all of the information available to us about sexting and other digital issues, many of us still do not understand the scope of the repercussions when we invoke poor (digital) judgment. This is because we have not been proactively taught digital responsibility or what we call, Responsibility 2.1C.  

We cannot apply 20th century solutions to 21st century issues!  We must all do our part, regardless of age, both as individuals and as part of a global (digital) community to learn, comprehend and communicate the concept of Responsibility 2.1C. We must ensure that our children and grandchildren grow up with the advantage of understanding 21st century responsibility and safety, a concept that many of us growing up never had, or would even (until recently) comprehend would be necessary.
