June 25, 2009 - PRLog -- Sensitizing children towards protecting animals, as several species are facing extinction due to destructive human activities.

Understanding the role of animals in culture and tradition.

HOW TO DO THE ACTIVITIY

Have a class discussion on the importance of the elephant and the tiger in our lives. Compare their symbolism in the past to what they signify in the present day.

Divide the class into two groups - one for tigers and the other for elephants. Each group is to research old magazines, newspapers, etc. and document any information they can find on these two animals. Two collages are to be made of these cuttings - and could be
displayed in the classroom.

Thoughts in captivity - The students are to write an essay (100-150 words) on the thoughts of a tiger or an elephant in captivity. They are to imagine themselves to be the
captive animal while writing.

Debate/discussion - Every species on this earth has the right to live freely. However, some people might believe that not keeping these animals in zoos etc. could hasten
their extinction.
