New Book on Creativity and Change Inspires Hope Through The Economic Downturn

Part How-to-Manual, Part Whimsical Adventure Story Provides Valuable Insights

July 22, 2009 - PRLog -- SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Has the flailing economy put your business in a rut? Or do you find yourself looking for creative alternatives for a life caught up in the rat race?  Bay Area author, Javy W. Galindo, provides a lighthearted guidebook on how to overcome creative blocks in order to experience life more creatively.

After spending a decade working as an electrical engineer, Galindo was victim to massive layoffs in 2007. Rather than worry, he seized the opportunity to begin a two-year investigation of the science and psychology of creative thinking. The result is a simple and humorous 250-page map of the creative process entitled, The Power of Thinking Differently:  An imaginative guide to creativity, change, and the discovery of new ideas (Amazon.com, $13.99).

“For over eight years I was both an engineer by day and a creative performance arts instructor by night,” Galindo said. “So, I really wanted to see if there was any way I could relate the boring creative thinking techniques taught in corporate seminars with the creativity of the artist.”

Part how-to-manual, part whimsical adventure story, his book describes how employees and businesses can transcend their thinking habits in order to exercise our inherent ability to think creatively.

“In the recent election we heard a call to break free of groupthink in order to make positive change,” he said. “But the real question was how do we do that? My book answers that question with a look at science and real world examples of creative people. But it also uses jokes, puzzles, mythology, and a curious allegory of an island of pickles and doughnuts throughout.”

Galindo promises that readers will learn strategies for finding new ideas on demand, how to cultivate creativity in groups, and how we can make ourselves more insight prone.

“The book is meant to help you re-wire your brain for creative insight,” he said. “Interestingly enough, readers will discover that the keys are a sense of humor, a sense of play, and the ability to relax. In other words, it’s all about rekindling our childhood imaginations.”

According to Mr. Galindo, one thing is certain. After reading the book you will never look at pickles and doughnuts the same way again.

The Power of Thinking Differently can be purchased for $13.99 through Amazon.com, directly through the author’s website at www.thinking-differently.com, or by calling (206) 426-1075.
