Aug. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- Justin Pisani, Hidalgo CTO and lead developer of the Equivital EQ-01 sensor technology, was invited to present to leading members of the international military community at the Future Soldier Technology Conference in Olympia, London.

The presentation focussed on the future of soldier biometric monitoring and it’s impact on fighting-force efficiency and increased survivability and sustainability.

Representatives of the US Marine Corps, Programme Manager, Mark Richter and Major David Wallis then presented their implementation of the Equivital system during operational duties in Iraq.

They reported that the system provided valuable information on the impact of heat, equipment load and terrain on the operational effectiveness of the marines.

This work will better enable the US Department of Defense to define measures for a soldier’s operational efficiency, including rapid cooling techniques when at risk of heat stroke, and dismounted soldier equipment weight optimisation.

Equivital will be used in further advanced trials, integrated with military future soldier ensembles, and specifically, personal communications devices.

The Equivital System will serve to increase situational awareness of the dismounted soldier and therefore operational effectiveness. It will also likely enhance casualty triage in order to make the most efficient use of military medical personnel and resource.

About Hidalgo
Hidalgo is part of the Jaltek Group and is based in Cambridge, UK. Hidalgo is a technology design and development solutions company specialising in radio based communications systems development as well as software and hardware for consumer, medical and industrial systems.

The Equivital™ personal physiological monitoring system developed by the Medical Systems division of Hidalgo presents significant opportunities in enabling the wireless monitoring of physical performance and well being of personnel engaged in a range of demanding activities. These include first responders and paramedics, military training and operations, emergency services provision, occupational welfare, sports performance analysis and physical endurance research. Equivital is extremely effective in the remote monitoring of patient condition within hospitals and at home following their release.

The EquivitalTM system can display data in real time or store it on a memory card to be viewed retrospectively. It has been trialled extensively and exhibits optimum performance even when the wearer is engaged in rigorous activity.
