Tyka Nelson Singer/Songwriter and Little Sister of Rock Legend Prince Launches New Website

Aug. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Tyka Nelson may be the sister of rock royalty Prince Rogers Nelson; but she is equally as gifted as a singer and songwriter as her big brother.

"Being Prince's sister might get me in the door, but it is my own talent that keeps me on the stage.  I love to perform, to give glory to God with my own brand of funky gospel music.  I think it's my mission to show people that God, that Jesus, can be cool."

Ms. Nelson has launched her website at www.tykanelson.net, "I was surprised that my name on .com was already taken!  So, I just decided to go with tykanelson.net instead. It's all good." She states with a laugh that is almost infectious and as adorable as she is.  Her likeability factor for this interviewer was a 10+.

Tyka's latest CD is entitled "A Brand New Me" and her soon-to-be-released memoir will shed a lot of light on what it was like gorwing up in 1960's Minneapolis, her subsequent addiction to drugs and how Prince sent her to Hazelden Rehab where she found God, her sobriety, her sense of self and once again, her music.

"God is the new drug," professes the talented singer, "He is what keeps me going each day.  I don't think about ending my life anymore or about abusing mind altering substances.  That is why my CD is called A Brand New Me, I am truly not the same woman I was just six years ago.

Tyka will be going back to Hazelden Rehab on September 1st to speak and sing a song or two, "This has been a dream of mine.  I am going back a victor and not a victim.  I've made it and I want to show others that they can too."

When asked about her famous sibling, Tyka just says that "We are very close, we love each other very much and he saved my life."  Through her eyes, we can see Prince not merely as a rock icon, but as a loving brother who did what it took to save his little sister. "My brother is just  man, he puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else." She quips.

Tyka will be going on tour beginning in September 2009 and playing in the cities of Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, Princeton, New York City, Boston and even in Europe in Pisa, Tuscany & Florence, Italy among others.
