This instructional school is a now enrolling for Fall classes.
By: Austin Cycle Camp “This is the type of resource I looked for when I first started riding,” said Dave Appel, President and Co Founder. “I didn’t know the first thing about skills like riding in a group, learning how to draft, or even climbing a hill. I felt like cyclists were left to figure it out for themselves.” With that in mind, Appel set out to create an instructional school designed not only to improve the fitness level of its students but also teach the foundational skills of bike handling. This became the mission of Austin Cycle Camp. “This is not a one day clinic,” Appel continued. “We are offering a comprehensive eight week program that includes three workouts each week. Our weekday classes, which use a combination of instruction and group workout, are held on vehicle-free courses. Austin Cycle Camp students learn new skills during the week that they can put to the test each weekend with our group rides.” “An instructional school for cyclists is a no brainer,” said Trey Steele, Co Founder of Austin Cycle Camp. “When you think about the fact that the sport of cycling often requires you to ride in close proximity to others while cars and trucks speed by you, it makes sense to teach riders how to become comfortable and confident in that environment.” Steele, whose background includes instructional design and training for Fortune 500 companies, provided an overview of the Camp’s curriculum. “The lessons are designed to build on one another. In the first week, students are doing things like changing tires and learning hand signals that cyclists use to communicate with one another. By the last week, we’re covering topics like nutrition strategies for endurance rides and how to conserve energy on the road. It’s truly comprehensive.” Fall classes for Austin Cycle Camp start in mid September. Registration is now available through the Camp’s website, http://www.AustinCycleCamp.com. “We’ # # # Austin Cycle Camp has one mission - to improve your bike performance. Working with riders of all levels, our personal instruction will take you farther and faster than you ever thought possible. End
