Advertising
Everywhere you see adverts, you see models too. Think about the wide range of people who appear on packaging, billboards, television and the internet in advertising campaigns, and you’ll realise how big a market there is for the individual looks of different models. A range of different people are needed to advertise interesting products every day!

Film/TV
If you’re interested in acting but have never had any training, film and TV modelling can be a great way to get into the industry without going to drama school or spending thousands on coaching. Even if you’re not interested in pursuing an acting career, it’s possible to have a rewarding and exciting vocation in this kind of screen modelling by itself.

Fashion & Catwalk
This is the most exclusive and highly publicised area of modelling. From catwalk to high-end magazine spreads, this is where models like Daisy Lowe and Kate Moss make their money. It’s also the most difficult part of the industry to get into, and can be both the most rewarding and the most upsetting. Make sure you’re well informed about what a fashion catwalk career might entail.

Photographic
Photographers, catalogues and magazines often hire models just looking for photographs of men and/or women performing tasks, looking natural or posing in a particular way. Photographic assignments are generally very model-oriented and can be lots of fun once you get the hang of following a photographer’s direction and getting into character!

If you’re interested in modelling and don’t want to restrict your options, it’s best to be open to all of these different types. Equally, though, if you are able to establish yourself in one area of modelling that you enjoy, don’t feel you have to take every assignment you are offered if you don’t feel comfortable about it. Decide what appeals to you, and then look for a modelling agency you feel comfortable with.
