By: Yolanda Renée Check out Mary Ann’s website at: www.maryannmacafee.com Mary Ann MacAfee has spent most of her life in Southern California, despite her east coast roots and ten years in the Pacific Northwest. She earned degrees in accounting, finance, and later a CPA in 1991. She and her husband forged a successful entrepreneurship that culminated in the sale of their Seattle-based computer retail business in 1998. Thereafter, she completed a literary fiction-writing program at the University of Washington and several UCLA writers’ workshops. Drawn by the warm weather and abundant sunshine, she and her husband and son relocated to the San Diego area in 2002. Her short stories began earning awards, a couple of them published, and her first novel was a finalist in the San Diego Book Awards in 2005. Her inspiration to write comes from her writer mother, a deep respect for nature, and personal experiences dealing with the extremes of joy and sorrow. FROZEN TEARS The tragedy that becomes the genesis for Kale Weaver’s allegiance to wolves and the circumstances making her target of a primitive superstition is challenging, to say the least. But nothing trumps what follows when she is confronted by the ultimate ordeal. Whatever the risks, she must fulfill a wish for her young son that she had never imagined for him. FROZEN TEARS embraces the ethos of America’s Last Frontier, its splendor and its brutality. The story is landscaped with natural animals, native populations and their ancient myths and rituals, and diverse groups of misplaced refugees from contemporary culture. Kale’s page-turning journey, above all else, shows that love can triumph over life’s most dire challenges and painful losses.
