Follow on Google News | Home Instead Senior Care of Massachusetts Sponsors Senior Safe Driving Symposium, Nov. 4 from 2-4pmFree Event to Offer Insight, Tips for Seniors & Families Featuring Panelists from the Mass Highway Safety, Mass RMV, AAA and AARP
By: Home Instead Seniro Care of Massachusetts The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Wed., Nov. 4, from 2-4 pm at the new Quincy Council on Aging’s Kennedy Senior Center, located at 440 East Squantum Street in Quincy. Home Instead Senior Care provides high quality, trusted non-medical home care services – companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, shopping, errands, etc. to help seniors remain in the comfort of their own homes or provide one-on-one care to those living in assisted living facilities. Industry experts and senior drivers at the Home Instead symposium will discuss driving statistics, safe driving evaluations, safe driving tips, alternative transportation options as well as advocacy steps being taken by AARP and other legislative changes pending. Panel participants include: • Barbara Rizzutti, Program Coordinator, Massachusetts Highway Safety Division. • Michele Ellicks, Community Outreach Coordinator, Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. • John Paul, AAA's Car Doctor and the Manager of Public Affairs for Southern New England. • Christopher Widelo, Advocacy Associate, AARP Massachusetts. Additionally, representatives from the Quincy Council on Aging and seniors who have successfully tackled the tough decision to give up driving will be participating in the discussion. “Because a driver’s license is a powerful symbol of independence it is often a very hard decision for seniors to consider when it’s time to stop and their adult children often find conversations about driving safety to be very tough and emotional,” said Alan Carney, owner, Home Instead Senior Care of Norwell, one of 17 Home Instead offices in Massachusetts. “The Senior Safe Driving Symposium is designed to offer seniors and their families objective and helpful formation and resources that provide advice on driving safely as we age, offer tips on how to broach difficult conversations about driving, and give insights on how to maintain independence and still get around if the decision to cut back or stop driving is made.” Sunrise Senior Living of Cohasset, which offers a full range of personalized senior living services, including independent living, will provide refreshments for the event. Because space is limited, please RSVP by calling Home Instead Senior Care at 781-878-2994 or the Quincy COA at 617-376-1246.
