Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- EDMONDS, WA - Edmonds Woodway High School Drill and Pom team started the 2009/2010 school season with an unprecedented third place win at its first competition of the year held at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland on November 7th.  Not only did the team receive a trophy for this high placement, they also brought home the “Spirit” award as well for its outstanding, best sportsmanlike conduct.

Drill Coach Deb Johnson says, "The team is off to an amazing start, the girls are motivated and dedicated to making this one of the best years ever, not only through performances and competitions but by being a part of their community.  One of their mottos this year is ‘every journey begins with just one step’--EW Drill Rocks!!!”

During the upcoming season EWHS Drill and Pom team will compete in 6 more competitions as it takes the exciting journey to State held in late March at the Sundome in Yakima. They will perform during the heralded Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade in Seattle, conduct the annual Little Drillers clinic for elementary and middle schoolers in the district on January 9th, 2010 --as well as host one of the most popular drill/dance competitions in Western Washington on January 16th, 2010 at the high school.

The second annual Friends and Family Appreciation Dessert Bash is planned for March 21st as a send off to State.  Friends and family are invited to attend. This free event allows the team to celebrate the end of a long season with our super fans. The team serves a sumptuous repast of desserts and goodies, while performing one last time in its home gym before the exciting trek to State.

This year especially, the team would like to thank the ESD and the Edmonds community for its support during the recent budget cuts. The parents, fans, coaches and most importantly the team members are grateful for the outpouring of goodwill from the district board, Superintendent Nick Brossoit and the EW Athletic Booster Club (EW ABC.)

To give back to the community this year the team is donating 10%from one of its fundraisers to Behind the Badge Foundation http://www.behindthebadgefoundation.org/, an organization providing assistance to families of fallen law enforcement officers.  They also serve seniors, individuals and families in the community for Neighbors in Need at Annie's Community Kitchen located at Edmonds Lutheran Church at 23525 84th Avenue West, Edmonds, Washington 98026 on Wednesday evenings.
