Feb. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Daily fantasy college basketball contests have been introduced to the fantasy sports landscape.  Not to be confused with traditional, season-long fantasy leagues these are pay-to-play contests that last a single day and, most importantly, payout winnings every day.

College basketball fans now have a new playground.

"We had already introduced all of the major sports to our daily fantasy line-up" said Neil Odze, President and Co-Founder of 365FantasySports.com.  "College hoops are the most recent sport we have introduced and one of the most important.  People are passionate about fantasy sports and they love college basketball.  This new addition gives college basketball fans a whole new way to enjoy their favorite sport."

Daily college fantasy basketball contests focus on the Top 25 teams and their players.  Statistical leaders in scoring, rebounds and assists are also thrown into the mix.  This formula allows contestants to use players from traditional powerhouses like Kansas, Kentucky and Duke but also allows players from schools like Radford, Morehead State and Houston to get chosen as well.

While the college basketball season heats up in mid-February and into early March, the crown jewel of the season is the NCAA Tournament.

Millions of American's participate in bracket pools each year which enhance the viewing experience of the tourney.   The bracket pools have always kept people entertained and engaged in the tourney, but now college basketball enthusiasts will have the option of selecting players and winning money throughout the tournament thanks to the daily fantasy contests which 365fantasysports.com will provide.

Daily fantasy contests are 100% legal and 365fantasysports.com will offer these contests every single day of the tournament except during the final game.  The law requires that a fantasy contest be comprised of at least two "real world events".  Since there is only one "Finals" game, it is not possible to legally run a fantasy contest for that single game.  "Even though we can't do the final game, we'll have a full month of fantasy college action during the tournament," said Odze.  "This is much more engaging than the brackets.  It takes more skill, too."

365FantasySports.com currently offers three types of fantasy basketball contests.

The first, called "Roundball" places several players of very similar ranking (skill level) in each draft round.  Contestants must select one player from each round.  Positions of the players selected are not a factor when selecting your roster.

The second type is a speed version of fantasy basketball called "The All-American Challenge".  Contestants will find ten draft rounds each  filled with two very high level,  evenly matched players.  (These are usually current or potential All-Americans, thus the name of the contest.) The choices set forth in each round are designed to be difficult.

The Point Cap contests round out the selection.  This is a more traditional contest in which contestants will find seven draft rounds, each sorted by positions.  Players are assigned a point value based on their actual performance to date.  Contestants must fill their roster with two guards, two forwards, one center and two "flex" players who can play any position.  Contestants must stay under a pre-determined "point cap" when compiling their rosters.

Once a contestant decides which type of contest to play, the only other choices to make are 1)  how many others he wants to play against and 2) what level buy-in / payout he wants to play.  Contests are currently offered in 2-, 4- and 6-team varieties.  Buy-ins range from $6 to $110 and payouts range from $10 to $600.

An example of a typical contest would have four contestants paying a $22 buy-in.  This contest would pay out $80.  365fantasysports.com would keep the remaining $8 as a contest fee to cover overhead.  This 10% fee is among the lowest in the industry, as some other sites are taking fees as high as 20 and 25%.

According to Odze, "Our contests are constructed and operated fully within the boundaries of the law and within the guidelines that define a 'fantasy sports' contest.  Our software is designed to prevent contestants from compiling 'illegal' rosters.  While we are 100% legal, our site still offers the look and feel of sports gaming which has attracted a number of sports bettors.  We really appeal to both fantasy fans and guys who like to bet on sports.  It's like the best of both worlds."

To date, daily fantasy college basketball is only available at 365FantasySports.com.
