Dec. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- Weno Healthcare Inc., a privately held corporation, formed in 2006, took the social network concept to a higher and more secure level with a healthcare e community.   Weno recently added a new benefit; OpenEMR SaaS, which is fully hosted and supported for no additional charge.

Healthcare IT adoption has been slow, primarily due to the cost of electronic medical records, especially amongst small to medium size providers.  Weno recently configured an open source EMR , as a software as a service (SaaS),  to help providers go electronic and paperless without the cost or fear factor; and give them opportunity to qualify for the stimulus payments available in early 2011.

While other SaaS EMRs are available today, the cost is generally based on a monthly subscription/per practioner use fee.  With Weno, a practice or provider can join as a company, with unlimited users,  for as little as $240/yr and get the full benefits of the e community:  HIPAA secure Weno Mail, a Weno Site, and now the OpenEMR SaaS.   Providers can also use their own proprietary software products to send documents in Weno Mail; as long as the file can be saved to attach.

The OpenEMR open source code was a building block to an already world wide and accepted software for physicians.  The software is complete with billing, office management, scheduling, templates, scripts, medical records management and more.

What makes Weno unique is the combination of the e community benefits with a free EMR SaaS.  This enables a true paperless communication environment that other systems lack.  For example, with just a few clicks, the user can select several documents and create a single report to automatically attach in their Weno mail account, ready to send to the provider of choice.  This greatly reduces printing, faxing, scanning, and endless phone calls to verify receipt , or lack thereof, of a fax transmission.

Providers already on Weno are cross referring and communicating easily.  Hospital users are sending patient records to nursing homes, home health agencies, rehabilitation centers, etc. for discharge placement.  Physicians use it for referring to imaging centers, home health, other doctors and more.   These providers typically join and then, like a social network, invite their other referral sources to join as well.

The Weno mail is not to be confused with email.  It is a closed loop, member to member process.  It is far more secure and reliable than faxing; but easy to use because it has the same look and feel of using any electronic mail messaging system.

The government plans to offer stimulus payments to physicians in an effort to facilitate widespread healthcare IT adoption.  Many physicians today are reluctant to let go of the paper systems due to costs and loss of production, while other larger practices and hospitals have invested heavily in EMRs only to find the communication is limited to printing these files and faxing them to others.   A low cost  Weno membership enables full communication of any electronic file or message to another member.
