Follow on Google News | Chandler Center for the Arts Completes Install of 1,540 Refurbished SeatsOriginal seats from 1989 were shipped to Michigan for a makeover
By: ANGLES Public Relations After 20 years of wear and tear, the seats’ upholstery and hardware needed to be refurbished for both patron comfort and overall appearance. The quieter and cleaner refurbished seats are one of the most-anticipated components of the Center’s renovations during its 20th anniversary year. The main stage will remain closed for renovations during the current season. In November 2009, The Center reinstalled refurbished seats in the 350-seat Bogle Theater and 250-seat Recital Hall in, to accommodate performances in those theaters. Cinderella, performed by Mesa-based dance company Ballet Etudes, will be the first performance following renovations, to be featured in the main theater on May 14-16, 2010 and kick off the re-opening celebrations. The voter-approved $6.7 million renovations also include the replacement of the Center’s rigging system, ADA improvements, air conditioning upgrades, new carpeting, installation of handrails in the auditorium, new signage, terrace improvements and other facility-related refurbishments. The Chandler Cultural Foundation was contracted in 1989 by the City of Chandler as a means to facilitate programming and fund development for the Chandler Center for the Arts. As a nonprofit organization, the Center relies on a variety of funding sources to help underwrite internationally acclaimed artists, educate young audiences, create important community programs and maintain our remarkable facility. Ticket sales and other earned income do not completely cover the costs of the Center’s numerous programs and education offerings. Only support from individuals, corporations, foundations and our public partners can make these programs possible. Membership contributions sustain a spectacular array of services and programs and make Chandler a better place to live and visit.
