FirstPower Group LLC wins Bid to Test SF6 Circuit Breakers for the city of Columbus, OH

Jan. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Twinsburg, OH--FirstPower Group LLC, a northern Ohio based high-voltage circuit breaker and air compressor manufacturing and service company announces today, that they have won a contract from the city of Columbus, OH to sample, test and repair up to 30 high-voltage SF-6 Gas insulated circuit breakers.

The work involves the sampling and analysis of the purity and condition of the SF6 insulating medium. FirstPower Group LLC will utilize a specialized laser camera, tuned to see leaks of SF6 gas, or Sulfur Hexafluoride. The camera enables visual identification of leaks, for pinpointing of problem areas. FirstPower will also use their collection cart to collect and analyze the gas medium, and recharge SF6 breakers in need of maintenance.

SF6 gas is harmless to the environment, but leakage can cause operational problems for breakers that use SF6. The gas creates an airless environment within the circuit breaker that extinguishes the arc of the high voltage circuit.
