Dallas immigration lawyer Martin Valko of Chavez & Valko named Slovakia's Honorary Consul to Texas

Feb. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- On February 1, 2010, Martin Valko, a partner in the Texas based full-service immigration law firm of Chavez & Valko, LLP with offices in Dallas and Fort Worth was appointed by the Government of the Slovak Republic, and confirmed by the U.S. State Department, as its Honorary Consul to the State of Texas, his consular district.  He will be engaged in providing assistance to Slovak citizens and business entities in Texas, promoting Slovakia, its culture, history, tourism, business in Texas, and further developing of economic cooperation between Slovakia and Texas. The consulate is scheduled to open in the Dallas office of Chavez & Valko in early May 2010.

Martin Valko is a native of Slovakia who was “transplanted” to the Lone Star State at the age of 17 as an exchange student at Dripping Springs High School.  He graduated from Oklahoma City University School of Law, in Oklahoma City, OK, with a law degree, and later received his Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Dallas, TX.

Martin Valko’s confirmation could be regarded as continuing in his father’s footsteps.  Dr. Jan Valko is a career diplomat who has been the Ambassador for the Slovak Republic (as well as Czecho-Slovakia) during his 32-year long career to countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Zimbabwe, Zaire, Zambia, Madagascar, Malawi, Comoros Islands, and Spain.  

Martin Valko lives in Dallas, TX, with his wife Martina Moravcova, a former SMU swimmer who is also originally from Slovakia, and who had competed in 5 Olympic Games and won 2 Olympic Silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
