Due to launch in Spring 2010, the free, downloadable “app” will be available via iTunes. With it, iPhone and iPod Touch users will be able to make charitable donations, starting at $1, with the touch of a finger. Each week, PocketPhilanthropist will feature a different charity and distribute the “app” generated donations back to that charity. “After witnessing the power of mobile donations for the current Haiti crisis, we’ve found that avenues for making donations should become increasingly simple and accessible,” With goals of clearly educating the end-user about each charity, PocketPhilanthropist will take a photo-journalistic approach, traveling across the United States and interviewing different charitable organizations about their challenges and goals. The coverage from this journey will continuously be shared with the end-user as each charity is featured. Throughout the month of February, PocketPhilanthropist is competing in the Pepsi Refresh competition in hopes of winning funds that will be used to support the non-profit.
