Destination 3° Partnering With Xterra Tv

March 1, 2010 - PRLog -- ORANGE COUNTY, CA and HONOLULU, HI – Beginning April 2010, Jenny Kalmbach and Morgan Hoesterey, two of the world’s elite female stand-up paddlers will cross Hawaii’s legendary open-ocean channels on stand-up paddleboards in search of adventure and challenge, and to help raise awareness against the plastics contamination that threatens our oceans. XTERRA TV will feature their exploits on “Adventure Hawaii,” a syndicated, three-part series that gives more than 10 million viewers across the nation a front-row seat to the best of the best of Hawaiian adventures.

“We are so excited to be a part of ‘Adventure Hawaii,’” says Jenny Kalmbach, reigning women’s standup champion of the Molokai to Oahu paddleboard race, “and to show the world the opportunities that stand-up paddleboarding opens up. Destination 3° is more than just endurance paddling, though that’s a big part; we’ll be paddling more than 300 miles and will be able to see – and show – the islands in ways that most people have never experienced.”

The women will also be surfing, freediving, and exploring the islands to highlight the impact of plastics contamination and raise awareness for the Algalita Marine Research Foundation.

Morgan Hoesterey, the first woman to complete the prestigious Molokai to Oahu paddleboard race solo on a stand-up board, first became associated with Algalita through her involvement in the BBC documentary “Message in the Waves.” In it Hoesterey discussed the brutal and devastating effects of plastic waste through the plight of the albatross on Midway Atoll.

“Algalita Captain Charles Moore said it best,” says Hoesterey, “’the ocean is downhill from everything.’ If we hope to continue to enjoy everything that the ocean gives to us, then we need to be conscious of protecting it. This isn’t a crusade to end plastics use, it’s a wake-up call to be responsible about what we consume – especially when it comes to single-use plastic. We have to ask ourselves if it’s even necessary.”

Destination 3° will launch from the Big Island in early April, conditions permitting, and will finish on Kauai, capturing the best of islands big and small in this exciting month-long venture. Episodes of “Adventure Hawaii” will debut in May, June, and July 2010 on all major networks. XTERRA TV is also partnering with FOX Sports to air the show both on-air and online.
