When do you decide to divorce? Or what are the reasons to stay together? Like a marriage is a big step in life (it is called the second best day in a life, after the birth of a baby) a divorce can have the same or even more impact. When you start a relation, the magic overrules everything. You wish to stay together forever. You don’t belong to the large group of people who end up in a divorce with the often nasty fights and argues. Unfortunately, it happens so often, people change, feelings change, situations change and.. after years you find yourself in the position you thought you would never be in.

In 1857 the divorce was legalized in the United Kingdom. Although people got the freedom to separate, due to a big social control and more strict religion, people hesitated to divorce. Another big reason was financial dependency. Nowadays woman are becoming financial independent, it is social accepted and also the church has less influence on family issues. All with all, it became more easy to divorce.

There are many reasons to break up a relation or a marriage but it is still a big step with an enormous impact for the rest of your life, even more when there are children involved. A lot of couples stay together for the children but even though, with more than half of all divorces in United Kingdom and Wales, kids below the age of 16 are involved.

Now what to do when you don’t know if you wish to divorce?

First talk about it with close ones, sometimes they come up surprisingly with things you never thought about. Many people make a list of positive and negative points, this is a very easy way to get your thoughts clear in a practical way (mostly too many emotions are overruling).

You are sure you wish to divorce:

If you know exactly why you wish to divorce and you think there are no options left to solve or heal your marriage, you have to look at the practical side of the whole. In this, you need professional divorce advice. A lot of therapists, counselors and online information points can advice you a good lawyer or law firm which can handle your practical matter so you can focus on the emotional side of it. Because, no matter how you turn it, emotional it is mostly anyway. It is always best to get good and professional divorce advice.
