March 12, 2010 - PRLog -- On Saturday, March 13th, 2010, Adam Robinson, the Republican challenger for Illinois State Senate’s 7th District, will speak at the Equality Across America Midwest Regional Conference, held at Chicago’s Columbia College.   The panel-style presentation, titled “LGBT Rights and Conservatism,” will be led by Michael Carr, President of Log Cabin Republicans – Illinois.

Robinson’s pro-equality campaign platform has been generating a buzz since he announced his candidacy in October, 2009.

“It’s time for the state of Illinois to recognize and protect the fundamental right to choose the person whom you marry,” said Robinson.  “For too long, we have denied our LGBT families the legal protections that the majority of our state’s population takes for granted.  This issue is about individual liberty and about limiting the ability of government to interfere in the private personal choices of the people of Illinois.”

The panel will discuss the conservative argument for marriage equality, open service in the military, and anti-hate/anti-discrimination laws. Michael Carr, President of Log Cabin Republicans – Illinois, will lead a discussion on how to frame the pro-LGBT legislative agenda to fit into a conservative legislator’s policy framework. Throughout the session, bipartisan success stories from across the country will be presented and discussed.

“Adam is the right candidate for his community,” said Michael Carr.  “The State of Illinois would be fortunate to have a fiscally conservative, pro-equality State Senator representing the 7th District.  We are excited to have a pro-equality Republican contributing to this important conference.”

Commenting on the conference, Robinson remarked, "I'm proud to have been invited to speak about my support for full marriage equality in the State of Illinois.  This is an important opportunity to discuss the diverse viewpoints surrounding these issues, and I look forward to a spirited discussion."

Robinson, 33, is a resident of the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago and lives with his wife, Anna, and their son, John.  He is challenging State Senator Heather Steans in the November 2010 general election.

The panel discussion will take place at 624 S. Michigan, Room 1301, from 1:00 – 2:15 pm.
