By: Texas Mathworks Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, newly named president of the Siemens Foundation, will deliver keynote remarks at the celebration of the mentors’ work. She recently participated in ceremonies in New York City honoring a three-member student group from Mathworks that won this year’s team honors and a $100,000 college scholarship prize in the prestigious national Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology. “It’s gratifying to have Ms. Harper-Taylor come to Texas to acknowledge the efforts of the mentors who give so generously of their time each year to help our students achieve excellence in math research projects during the Honors Summer Math Camp,” said Mathworks director Max Warshauer, a Regents Professor at Texas State University - San Marcos. Two professors and a graduate mathematics student from The University of Texas at Austin, a St. Edward’s University professor, an engineering professor and a chemistry professor from Texas State University, and ten members of the Mathematics Department at Texas State are included among the honorees. Also participating in the program will be Dr. Stephen Seidman, Dean of the College of Science at Texas State, and two alumni of the Honors Summer Math Camp. # # # Mathworks' mission is to develop model programs and self-sustaining learning communities that engage K-12 students in doing mathematics at a high level.
