“Saturday: 13 cities to protest red light cameras, as 2 Chicago-area State Senators are targeted…”

Scott Tucker (R-11th-Chicago) asks 2 State Senators to give-back the money they’ve taken, and put real reforms into their bill.

Chicago, IL, March 19th, 2010 – Scott Tucker, candidate for State Rep. in the 11th District, on Chicago’s north-side, is asking Senate President John Cullerton (D-6thChicago) and suburban Republican State Senator John Millner (R-28th-Bloomingdale) to return the money they’ve taken from red light camera industry lobbyists.

“Senator Millner has taken thousands of dollars from the red light camera lobbyists. Senator Cullerton took $1,500.00 just last year. The tickets from these red light cameras are taking hundreds of dollars from both Senators’ constituents, so how about they donate the money they’ve taken from the lobbyists to food banks in their districts?” Tucker asked.

“Red light cameras are causing accidents, hunger, evictions, and foreclosures in Illinois. IDOT data shows that red light cameras have caused accidents to increase in Chicago. If it’s about safety, then let’s force municipalities to hire independent traffic engineers to re-time the lights safety, and not for revenue,” Tucker says.

“I want to congratulate Senate Transportation Chair Martin Sandoval [D-12th-Cicero] for being open-minded on red light camera reform. He’s been fair in the face of pressure from Senate President John Cullerton to kill our reform efforts,” said Tucker.

“Also, Senator Millner’s Democratic challenger, Corinne Pierog [D-St. Charles], should be thanked for her courage in bucking the majority party’s leadership, and opposing red light camera abuse in Illinois,” says Tucker.

Corinne Pierog says, “people in the collar communities are really upset about red light cameras.” Pierog asks, “Why isn’t he [Sen. John Millner] advocating for safety instead of something [red light cameras] that causes accidents? That doesn’t make sense.”
