March 23, 2010 - PRLog -- FALL RIVER, Mass. — The Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital hosts, “The Eyes Have It,” a free, public educational program on the latest advances in eye surgery and eye health. The program will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at the Bayview Retirement Community, 4380 North Main Street, in Fall River.

Presented by Paul J. Botelho, MD, Corneal, Refractive, Cataract Surgeon, practicing at Advanced Eye Care, in Fall River, Dartmouth, and Taunton, “The Eyes Have It,” will outline recent medical advances in the areas of all-laser or Intralase LASIK Surgery, Laser Assisted Corneal Transplants, Implantable Miniature Telescope for Macular Degeneration, Naturally Focusing Premium Lens Implants for Cataract Surgery, and new technology used to replace reading glasses.  All attendees will also be entered into a raffle for a free pair of sunglasses.


Dr. Botelho completed a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the John’s Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md. While at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Dr. Botelho participated in many clinical research projects and received the prestigious Terrance P. O’Brien, MD Research Award. He also authored numerous research publications, book chapters and review articles.

Upon returning from his Fellowship, he performed the first Corneal Transplant Surgery at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He also serves as the Program Director, Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, in the Department of Ophthalmology at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, RI.  Dr. Botelho is proud to be a member of the Auxiliary of Charlton Memorial Hospital where members serve as ambassadors to the community on behalf of the hospital and provide such services as fundraising for new equipment and technology, healthcare scholarships, patient outreach, and grade-school hospital tours.
