April 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Rochester local and Washington Rep for Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society, Sheri Jones, has been in the planning process for an event like this for some time.  It was early this year that her hopes became a reality and she was able to begin the official planning of Northwest Wienerfest to be held on July 31st and August 1st of this year at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma. Late in 2009 the National Dachshund Races announced they would be adding some national circuits and Sheri took the reins for the Northwest.

Although Wiener Dog Races are held all over the US, there are few that pay such close attention to the safety of the dogs, while also making sure proceeds benefit a good cause.  Toni Gossard, who is the coordinator for the National Dachshund Races, and Sheri have been working closely to be sure every step is made to educate the public about safety measures when dealing with this special breed, as well as teaching about the benefits of adopting a new family member over “shopping” for a pet. Sheri mentions, "It amazes me how many people don't know that there are thousands of dogs of all breeds, not only in shelters, but also in breed specific rescues. And that is just locally." Another goal of Toni’s in holding several contests on festival Sunday, is to teach people about all of the different personalities, colors, patterns, and coats of the breed.

Unlike many other Dachshund events, Northwest Wienerfest is inviting all dog breeds and animal rescues to have a booth, attend, watch, and even take part in a few “All Breed” competitions. They are getting ready to announce their all breed costume contest with a “Support Our Troops” theme.  Sheri mentions, “We are extremely excited about this. We have coordinated several events over the past few years and none have been open to all dogs. We want to expose all rescues to the public and at the same time get all dog breed lovers together for a really fun weekend just for celebrating their pets.”

Pre-registration is available for all Dachshund events and is recommended for the Wiener Dog Races. All breed events will be added to the website as soon as information is available. Sheri and Northwest Wienerfest look forward to a possible record breaking event, hoping to have more Doxies in one Indoor Northwest venue than ever before! Northwest Wienerfest is open to all Dachshunds, papered and not papered, handicapped or not. A special Cart Race will be held for those of you who have physically challenged Doxies. Admission to the festival will be only $2. Parking and Children 5 and under will be free.

A few volunteers are still needed, Vendor spaces are available, and there are some Sponsorships open as well. For more information or to help support this amazing event contact:
