Spring/Summer Quarter of Metalsmith and Jewelry Classes Begin at Whaley Studios

The spring/summer quarter of metalsmith and jewelry classes begins today, April 5th 2010 at Whaley Studios in the Hillcrest district of San Diego. Some classes still showing availability!

April 5, 2010 - PRLog -- We are once again offering both day and evening options for group and private classes. We are also scheduling a evening group class devoted to wax carving and mold making.

Classes commence the week of April 5th, and continue through the week of May 31st.

- Group classes - $150.00 for 9 weeks, 2.5 hours once a week
- Private classes - $350.00 for 9 weeks 4 hours, once a week

Group classes dedicated to metalsmithing, are offered:

•Monday - April 5th to May 31st, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM:  - Limited availability
•Tuesday - April 6th to June 1st, 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM: - Open
•Tuesday - April 6th to June 1st, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM: - Open
•Wednesday - April 7th to June 3rd 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM: Silversmithing with a focus on Wax Carving, moldmaking & casting - Open

Private classes are offered:

•Monday  April 5th to May 31st , 12 Noon to 4:00 PM - Full with a possibility of one opening
•Tuesday  April 6th to June 1st , 12 Noon to 4:00 PM  - One, possibly two openings, please call!!
•Wednesday April 7th to June 2nd,  11:00 AM to 3:00 PM - Closed
•Thursday April 8th to June 3rd, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM - Closed

We are also considering open studio bench time for qualified students; our primary concern is safety and staffing.

Registration for open classes is still available via http://whaleyworkshops.com/Classes.html; meanwhile you may enroll via phone, 619-299-9619. NOTE: All classes are offered on a first come first served basis, however current students have the right of first refusal for class enrollment.

About Whaley Studios

Jay Whaley and an expanding line-up of 'best in class' guest instructors, including Kate McKinnon, Michael David Sturlin, Andy Cooperman, Nancy Megan Corwin, Loren Damewood and others to be annouced shortly, some sourced from the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) Annual meeting in Houston, Texas, will be teaching all phases of jewelry and the metal arts trades.

Classes typically include creating designs by fabrication, and/or wax casting, metal clay, wireworking, or other unique skill sets specific to the instructor. For Jay Whaley classes, the use of hand and powered tools, torches and casting equipment is included. All metals to be silver or gold, but we are also equipped for platinum. All tools are provided, there will also be saw blades, silver and solders on hand for purchase. Students will be able to create their own designs and work at their own pace. Individuality is encouraged, and supported. We offer either classes of 8 to 10 students at $150.00 or private tutoring of 4 to 5 at $350, for a 9 week session.
