Dr. "Red" Duke will address Eagle Scouts at a 'Gathering of Eagles'

April 5, 2010 - PRLog -- The Woodlands - The Tall Timbers District of the Boy Scouts of America is looking for Eagle Scouts of ALL ages, who live in the District and the South Montgomery County area. The District is hosting a 'Gathering of Eagles' on Sunday, May 23, 2010, in The Woodlands at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott, starting at 6:00 p.m. Dr. James H. "Red" Duke will be the keynote speaker.

Dr. Red Duke obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and was subsequently honored by the Boy Scouts of America with the Distinguished Eagle Scout award. Dr. Duke established the first air ambulance service in Texas, and established the first Level 1 Trauma Center in Southeast Texas.

The Eagle Scout is the highest ranking scouting. Fewer than 4 percent of all Scouts achieve Eagle rank, however, "Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout," declared Pat Brown, one of the Tall Timbers many volunteers. "An Eagle Scout promises to give back to Scouting more than he received, " Brown added. "It is a lifelong commitment to live the Scouting ideals. Dr. Duke exemplifies that lifelong commitment."

Tall Timbers District was created in 2009, when local district lines were redrawn to better meet the needs of Scouts. Tall Timbers District has more than 60 units of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Teams, Venturing Crews, and Sea Explorers, serving over 2100 young men and women led by over 1200 adult leaders. Geographically it covers part of South Montgomery County stretching from the San Jacinto River south, including The Woodlands.
